From the catalog: A survey of the gospels against their backgrounds with attention to the characteristics of each gospel, the harmonistic account of the life of christ, and Christ’s teachings. Attention is given to the study of the person and work of Christ throughout the Bible, but with focus on the gospels.

From the instructor: Including the book of Acts, contra above, we will work our way through the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke-Acts, and John. In order to understand these books and their genre, we must understand the larger Greco-Roman background behind the Gospels. We will discuss the text of the New Testament as a work of literature itself: authorship, composition style, language, editorial elements, et cetera. Our primary goal, however, should always be seeking out the content of the text: what the text teaches us about God, about Christ, and about how to live as the disciples of Jesus in the world.
